now onto the song... I think that its about someone who's thinking about what he's doing at that point in his life, thinking about all the stuff that's happened to him

But even so, it doesn't amount up to anything in his life, and he thinks back to when the choices he made had no effect on him and now that he's older he wishes that he could have been smarter with what he had done because now those choice have consequences.
He can't sleep anymore because he is tired of all the terrible things that are happening to him.
He then realizes that he only has himself to blame.
It then goes back to the present where he made the wrong decision:
