This is an excellent song.

"We build ourselves, where monsters used to hide."

I have a couple of opinions on this. I think this line either means that humans can do horrible things, but have the ability to put those events in the past and make an entirely new life. Or, this line can be taken in an almost cynical sense, saying we are all monsters because we are all capable of destruction and terror. However, once again, humans have the ability to repress cruelty either genuinely or behind a false front.

"Oh, how we celebrate the mediocrity."

Wow. This is probably one of the most underappreciated lines written by Chiodos. So here's my rant-

The meaning of this is so true, especially in the world today. Just about every human being is taught from birth to strive for what is considered to be a 'purposeful' or 'fulfilling' life. This 'ideal life' basically includes completing school, obtaining a six figure job, getting married, having children, and living in a big house with a white picket fence. This is what is expected from us, even though, (surprise), there can be so much more to life.

Everyone claims to support expression and creativity. But guess what? Society looks down on homeless people, people who live in their cars, aspiring musicians and artists, people who work in certain industries, and everyone else who doesn't want to live out the 'American Dream'. That is the definition of hipocracy. Maybe these people just want to live for themselves, live for something greater than everyone else's expectations. Unoriginality and mediocrity are very much celebrated in our world. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.

Society doesnt look down on them you idiot. Even the government supports people like that, Givesthem money to continue their work.

What are you talking about, The American Dream is whatever you want it to be. There is no designated 'dream' so to speak. I think your reading to much into his lyric.
