Why does a song need to be limited to one meaning? To me music is inspiring. Depending on my mood and circumstances a song can mean one thing one day and something completely different the next.
One person can see one message in a song and someone else can see something else - as demonstrated in the above posts. One person interpretted it to mean a song about Jesus, another about a ship, and one more about police officers.
The song was originally written about a ship, but why does it have to be limited to just that in its interpretation? It sounds to me like the author intentionally left some vagueness to leave it open to interpretation.
