Okay I absolutely love this song but have to point out some things I have begun to see.
Pharell starts the song off as if at a fast food joint. Which makes it seem as if it's a buisness with no emotional involvement. We are suppose to just "watch celebrities as the music industry gets our money." He is only working for them.

Then Casablancas comes and talks about "demons that will never let you rest." I have seen some rare interviews of celebrities who say that they have never gotten enough sleep because the Music industry takes advantage of them. And again the next verse he sings near the end disturbs me:
And if your happiness is watching TV all night long
...? job of dealin' other people in a song

I have heard of many accounts of subliminal messaging being used in TV to influence the masses to buy products or choose a politician or "change goals." And it is almost definitely used in music. He "regrets" that he has seen the darker side of the music industry but they are still using him for their agendas.
The major message to this song is that popular musicians are just "employees" for the music industry carrying out their agendas to influence the masses. They want you to listen to them, give them money, now thank you for coming through the drive-thru and "please come again."
how has no one commented on this?!
