To me, this song is about how modern women allow themselves to be used up by the time they turn 30 (if not sooner). They take one of three destructive paths in the process:
They don't look for love, but instead "hook up" in pursuit of emotionless, short-term gratification.
They look for "love" as defined by popular culture, and don't have a clue what true love really is.
They look for true love, but don't have the critical thinking skills necessary to learn from past mistakes.
Unfortunately, the women who follow the first path may be pathologically incapable of carrying on a long-term, monogamous relationship involving both physical and emotional intimacy. At least the women on the second and third paths are salvageable, but most of them will still have to hit rock-bottom emotionally before they learn. The sooner they reach that point, the better off they'll be in the end.
Women don't have to take any of those paths. The wisest people are capable of learning from the mistakes of others.
