I love this song, it makes me so happy. Like the above person said, it's just about learning to trust your instincts and follow your intuition -- instead of following anybody else. I especially love the stanza that begins with, "Well my instincts are fine..." Times get rough, but if you trust yourself and your instincts, you can make it out okay and you'll see that it's all in how you view the world. "Time after time confirmed an old suspicion, it's good to be alive." Anyone who's gone through a dark time and then emerged to find that things are actually okay can probably relate to that line.
