1: Jon is saying that many times in our lives, we are dissapointed with the way things are playing out, so we seek to blame others, and "point the finger". The answer isn't in pointing the finger, but looking in the mirror, we are responsible for our lives.
2: Sometimes, a relationship has to end, even if we don't want it to. So we strive to keep that person as close to us as possible, even though we know it will all be in vain.
