This song is so great, and so powerful. The ending has the most force of any song I have heard in a while.

As for the meaning, Its definitely about religion, and has three parts. The first part is about the things he has done in his life and how he is trying to reach out to the lord again after losing touch. When it says "I felt the lord in my fathers house" it shows that he had so much faith as a young kid, but has become corrupted and has drifted away from the lord.

In the second part he has a revelation "we bled it out/ over the floor of the neighbors house... I've never seen a thing so complete." This causes him to begin to come back around to God and thinks he can cure all his pain and problems.

The third part during the slow section, he see's how the lord can take away your sins "I felt the lord begin/ to peel off all my skin." However, after he has done this he realizes his problems are deeper than just the problems in his life, but are actually problems within himself that only he can fix "reveal the bigger mess/ that you cant fix."

Many of Andy's songs deal with his religious upbringing, but I feel like in this song he really takes it head on and that takes a great deal of maturity. Absolutely love this song.
