Personally, I love the acoustic version of this song. About a year ago my best friend of 4 years and I started dating. 3 months later he died in a car accident, and for some reason this song and a few others have really just become the world to me. In listening to it, this song sounds like a boy professing his love to the one that got away... and yet with a little tweaking I think it can also apply to people who have untimely lost their loved ones. Hopefully I'm not the only one that looks at this song this way.
