Cover art for Ten Women lyrics by Conor Oberst

this is about CHEATING. ten women came between Conor and whomever he was dedicted to.

"Ten women (ten women) Ten women Between you and me Ten women (ten women) Ten women The nightmare and the fantasy Ten women The thrill and the shame Ten women I miss you the same While you're kissing the ring Of some good timing king Ten women A fool I have made"

being with ten women was a nightmare because he never thought he could hurt the person he loved like that but at the same time it was a fantasy because he was.. ya know, gettin it on. it was thrilling but he feels ashamed of himself for doing that to his girlfriend (maybe maria???) but he says he misses her just the same. i dunno what the good timing king means but hes made a fool of himself because he lost his girl because of these ten women.

"Two faces (two faces) Two faces Two faces you have Two faces (two faces) Two faces Keep one in your bag Two faces From which you can choose Two faces And neither are you Well I'm biding my time Like a cellar of wine With two faces You'll never be true"

His girlfriend is two-faced because maybe she has cheated on Conor as well?? And he's waiting for her to change because at this point.. she'll never be true.

"One witness (one witness) One witness Is all that I need One witness (one witness) One witness Just someone to see One witness To all that's been done One witness Whose eyes will not run Just someone to shout In this big, empty house One witness To mourn for our love"

All he needs is one person to see what has happened to said relationship and mourn for whats been lost

"Ten women (ten women) Ten women Between you and me Ten women (ten women) Ten women The glory and the tragedy Ten women To trust and betray Ten women I want you the same It will be like it's been If you come home again With ten women Who have all gone away"

the last verse says it all, he still wants her and he's telling her if you come home, we can be like we were again, the ten women have all gone away, they meant nothing to me!
