i'm also clueless about what it means. All i know is that when he says:

it means that we shouldn't give up. And that life will have it's ups and downs, and will through us in different directions, but we just have to stick with it and keep trying. I think it's about taking things slow when it comes to trials and challanges, and when we do have those times we just have to keep going because there are more things in life than sadness.
"But our wings only work when we are completely alone." means that there will be times in our life when we'll be alone, but those might be the greatest times of our life when we actually learn something.
