I think it could be about a hundred and one differant things, but the one I thought first was she ran all her life. Maybe her Dad neglected her emotionally, or sending her away to aboarding school or something. The whole 'ring' bit could just mean an attatchment, or an obligation. She was expected to stay put at the school, or have a good time, but it never happened, so she carried on running. I kept thinking she had a baby somewhere in the song, but I'm not sure whether I'm just taking the 'newborn' too literally.
Thats what I thought, first time I listened to it too. Her latest album is so beautiful.
