Cover art for Goodbye lyrics by Alien Ant Farm

This is my interpretation.

This guy is going out with a prominent girl that everyone admires and thinks is "larger than life." She makes friends easily but always has to say goodbye to them because of her lifestyle. In the beginning of the song she's saying goodbye with dismay but at the end she says it with no delay (or emotion?) because it might be happening too often. It's possible that the lifestyle is getting old for her. People tell her she looks good but she never gets to see them again. Her boyfriend has been with her for who knows how long and he obviously saw something more than just looks in her because he dumps her despite that.

Her boyfriend tolerates her lifestyle but takes notice that she isn't doing the same for him, "Humbleness taught me to share the love, but you never caught that drift did ya?" She might be doing something questionable outside of their relationship. He dumps her, "And then to disbelief, you turned your pretty cheek, Goodbye! Goodbye!", even though he knows she's pretty, "I hear my conscience say, that you look good today." He never mentions that he admires her prominence, in fact he says he wishes he could show her that she's not larger than life. To him she's just a person like everyone else.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs and Alien Ant Farm is a very underrated band.
