she fucking kills this song and i mean that in the best way possible. you can really hear the emotion in her voice play out in each line as she sings it. i know it sounds like she's yearning for a man who is out of her reach, someone who doesn't really know she exists in a way. however, my very first thought on hearing the words was that the "he/him" is actually god. i know this was written by phil spektor so who really knows, but just reading the line:

When I'll walk alongside of him"
kind of sounds like the promise of heaven after death. it's a stretch, i know, but a thought nonetheless.
