First verse has a couple of mistakes:

Giant Asteroid, coming in from outer space, BUT the people look the other way. What were they looking at?

Anyways... This song is about people putting the fate of the world to the decision of their faith. Rather than using science and other more logical things in life to stop the collision of a giant asteroid, they use faith to decide that some sort of god or higher power will ultimately rescue them. If it's not for their own rescue, it's for their own salvation.

Ex: (From the religious point of view) "Poor space alien, you're all damned cause you're not saved / That's an awful lot of them. Inferno filled up to the brim." Obviously there's superiority complex from believing they aren't damned to hell because they are saved through the practice of their religion. They won't have to face the so-called inferno.

Now, this isn't necessarily an attack on religion. There's a dividing line when religion is fine and when it isn't. Resting everything, including lives, on faith when there is still possibly something that we can do is not fine. That's especially true when we should be investing ourselves into science and not religion in the case of a giant asteroid on a collision course with the world.
