To me, this song is about a painful, complex relationship that exists between two people who are mentally unstable. As the other person begins to show signs of being "lost" (identity crisis, lapse of sanity) the narrator becomes frustrated and controlling, saying whichever way you go ("if you could fall I will fill your mouth with a sour taste, and if you rise I will beat you there on a higher plane") you're fucked without me. The meaning is twofold: on one hand, he's trying to convince this person that they can't do it on their own and that they need him to succeed... and on the other, he's saying he only wants them to succeed insofar as they stay with him.
