In my opinion this song is about two people who love eachother, but have obstacles keeping them from being together.

-There is something keeping the two apart, for example, maybe the girl has a boyfriend, who she wont leave, but maybe not.

--I love this lyric because I like to interpret it as the two spending half a day together, with what is left of the thier love (the tree losing leaves) which is slowly fading because, they know it has to.

He wants her to admit that she loves him and wants to be with him, or just fool him, because he cant bare thinking otherwise.

I know that this part doesnt quite fit my interpretion, but that's what he intended it to mean.
