In general, before I knew there was a theme or story to the album, this song made me think of some kind of intense, heavy decision or a traumatic event that changes you or the way you see the world from there on out - suicide, murder, abortion, child birth, rape.
It did also make me think a specific event: A few days before buying "Oceanic" I was watching a clip from one of Henry Rollins' spoken words shows on YouTube. In this clip he talks about, in excruciating detail, about witnessing his friend Joe Cole's murder. How he made it through that show without breaking down crying is beyond me.
