I interpreted these lyrics as sort of, when he began with a new life, he just gave up. He didn't know how to handle happiness, and it just isn't who he was. "Where the sidewalks ends, a new life begins With a better taste in my mouth But that sidewalks far And my eyes feel raw So, I spit the bitter taste out "

It seemed as if when he finally did start off new, it was too much to change his habits.

"Maybe you'll change me You'll set me on the straightest path Well, baby you can't save me I am uncaged"

I love those lines the best, because he's saying how much he will change for the better, but he is still the same person who is out of control, and can't escape the bad he is buried in.

"It's the poems you write It's the lines you recite It's the pain your voice It's the songs and the noise It all is truly terrible All of it's truly terrible"

That verse really held together the lyrics, when he was describing the empathy he felt for everything, he didn't want to 'go on' in life. He just saw everything as a black hole, and just swallowed pills to make things better.

Basically, this song is about a guy who starts off new, but doesn't have the determination to follow through, because he feels like no one can save him because he has made so many mistakes.

My Interpretation

its "so i spit the better taste out", not bitter just a letter, but i think its kinda a big difference, just further reiterating how he lacks the willpower to follow through and truly work to change himself and his life

but yeah, nicki911 pretty much nailed the meaning
