A friend of mine gave me a pretty good explanation for this song. He said that R. Plant wrote it about his concern for J. Pages addiction to heroin. When you read the lyrics it makes alot of sense: in the first 4 lines its pretty obvious "trying hard to change but cant let go, cryin tears of pain and every day is the same as the one before"...that describes the life of a heroin addict....."its hard waiting for the day" (to get clean)....."when you hear the call (of the needle)" "can you count the cost (of what its doing to your life)"....and finally "i'm walking the floor over you" is robert being concerned for his friend.....this is the most logical explantion of this song I have ever heard.
