I think it's about a kind of run-of-the-mill relationship that he's in, and how it seems kind of mundane, but he really wants to knock the chick's socks off.
like "know that it will start off strong babe, and it will end up weak in the end" -- they both see where it's going, but there is always opportunities to change the course of it all...even if it's a routine, it's sweet.
"strong on the horizon, but it ends up being really so sweet" like yeah, we'll have our lulls, it might be boring sometimes, but i want to grow old with you. stick with it, you'll see.
just my interpretation, can't make up my mind i guess. maybe i'm over-romanticizing it :P
