i guess it could be about domestic violence. both (boy&girl) had problems to learn how to love during their childhood because they could have probably been hit by their parents, etc. ...
figurativly they never or barely received love and have to deal with the consequences now.
like longing for a lot of love, but being unsure if they could get it from their partner and being very sceptical.
