Somehow they wound up with free studio time and wrote and recorded a song for the Roadrunner stoner compilation 'Burn One Up' (ironic as Kyuss virtually invented stoner rock but actually despised the term). The song was called '18 AD'. And after a brief dalliance under the name Gamma Ray, it was QOTSA's first ever song. "We recorded it with a giant stack of mushrooms, marijuana and ecstasy," recalls Catching happily.
