I think it's more of a person that they never got really close to, but they always felt a connection with/were intrigued by them.
"my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side" -- so beautiful. almost like he's accepting that they will never be together here, but there's still a love. or something like that. really sad and lovely, maybe it's about someone who died? my opinion anyways.
