My interpretation is that this is the meeting of Margaret, the heroine, and her lover (William?), the adopted human son of the forest queen. He takes the form of a deer, but when she rescues him from an injury, he turns into a man and seduces her. She returns to her home but she's now bored with her daily life, and in love with William.
