somehow the first time i heard this i pictured it as a girl and a guy who planned to go all the way but the guy realizes she doesnt really want to give up that much of herself. its totally out of deep love for him, and he thought she would want it too, but he cant lose her over this and wishes she would change her mind, or at least refuse outright.
i mean think about it:
"You're not about to jump right into this, tonight"
"You don't really want this
Right now
Are you gonna try to save yourself?
I bet you're so sick of hearing it <- she mightve been in this situation before, and shes probably sick of worse guys trying to take advantage of her if shes the only one who wants to "save herself" for later

"I'll just let it go for you
I'm letting you down
You are just hiding it so well
You're giving me no sign, no interest

so yeah. i think hes disappointed that he had no idea how strongly she felt about the issue but as much as it hurts that he feels like she doesnt want to be that close, he'll let her leave that night without making an argument or thinking less of her like other guys might have.
