Well I saw on a live version on youtube that when his wife was pregnant she wanted to name their son-to-be Milo. Matt asked why and she replied with, "Because it's pretty." Matt didn't like the answer and they eventually decided on something else. He wrote this song after she suggested Milo.
I'm a strong believer in interpreting songs however you want to. When I first heard this song I got the idea that this guy, Milo, was that guy you know who was always the good guy in the group. Especially in the lines: "He's a nice guy And he speaks well And I, would do well, to be more like him." Just my ideas.
