I think that this song is about the futility of believing in a supreme being or "God", and how we pray and wish for them to do all these things for us, but it doesn't really change anything and we have to live our own life, not some semblance of what a so-called "Supreme Being" or "Creator-of-All" wants us to, the line "Shiny brass is milk and grain" refers to the fact that everyones life is revolved around money and how it is basically our main life source.econd half of the song refers to someone who is dying, and has fulfilled their life, they sink into their rightful position in the world and finally die.
