I don't think that any of you are getting it at all. Chris Cornell wrote Rusty Cage in 1992. Johnny Cash identified with the song for the same reason I do. Anyone who has ever been seriously addicted to anphetamines can relate. alot of people think that Rusty Cage is about revenge, but it is really about liberation. Johnny Cash liked it so much he decided to release a cover with Soundgardens permission.

Johnny Cash spent most of his later career trying to bridge the gap between generational and cultural music styles. He was inducted into both the Country Music and Rock & Roll Hall's of Fame and also enjoyed Gosple, Blues, and Bluegrass. He was friends with Neil Young who I believe kicked off the Grunge era. Johnny Cash also released a cover of Nine Inch Nails "Hurt".
