In my opinion, this is arguably one of the most prophetic songs ever written. Released in 1980, barely one year after the start of the Soviet-Afghan War, this song seems to predict that the war will be the crucible for Islamic jihad against the West. It even seems to deliver a "reap what you sow" message (You stand there beating on your little war drum...but it won't be long until your time has come), which is a theme found in some people's post-9/11 analysis of the CIA's support for the mujahadeen during the Soviet-Afghan War. While the rest of us are seeing clearly in hindsight, the UK Subs' foresight, I would argue, is uncannily accurate in this song, and, in my opinion, it's a shame this song does not get more credit and appreciation for its dark and accurate prophecy.
