His eyes won't close could be referring to how people often shut their eyes during worship-- I say this because he also refers to how to his hand's won't clap, meaning he won't willingly boogie down and get excited about this Jesus guy like the religious do.

You've taken more than I owe"
If he doesn't find some friendship or happiness, then it's proof that there's more evil on this earth than good. In such a case, God's made a world that isn't worth living and is a cruel being for it.

Tell me that life don't weigh a god damn ton
I swear my back's just a drum"
More on the conundrum of the happiness/sadness balance of life. He can't possibly perceive how people are supposed to just let their worries and problems flow away like the Bible suggests, because he feels so much weight pushing him down. Life plays him like a drum, pounding away constantly.
I just hope this guy comes to peace with this stuff.
