When I hear this song I picture a guy with his girl, walking down the street in the evening, not even talking, just them alone. And I think the parts about the dead and Vesuvius are about people that don't have what he has right then. or people that did have it but messed up...? And this guy likes knowing that he has something nobody else has. - He has no doubts that she's it because their "steps seem to rhyme so perfectly" which I think means that they are perfect for each other...? They never run out of things to talk about...

And then it could mean that he doesn't have her love yet - "just waiting for the train." She likes him, he loves her...

This song is beautiful...
