April Tenth Lyrics

I've listened to this song way too many times and as far as I can tell it seems to be about someone from her youth who committed suicide. April 10th must have been the day this person died or the day she heard about it. This person must have been a friend she didn't see regularly anymore, but may have during her youth or maybe someone she used to work with. She had heard through friends that his/her life had been going downhill but I think she regrets that she wasn't around to help them. She realized that she should have done something when they received the suicide letter. "And you've dropped in with the letter you wrote and I read it aloud to prove that I could" She has a hard time reading the letter because of the emotion involved and she couldn't believe that they had actually killed them self. The next few lines seem so be about maybe people at a wake reminiscing or among friends. "And there's blood on all our hands with the catalyst gone" She seems to be blaming herself and others for doing nothing because now its too late to do anything. "And only what's left to us is history built on dust I'm sweating on poet's words" Seems to be talking about the dust spread on a casket at a funeral and the sweating on poet's words part is probably speaking of a eulogy she gave using something the dead friend had written. The rest of the song seems to be about the depression after a death and the realization that we will all die at some point like little lambs to meet their end.

I truly love this song and it touches me every time I hear it.
