great song. like everyone who is the first to comment on a song says. i can't believe no one else has commented on this song.
i think the song is pretty self explanitary. he's telling the story of a woman who chose a man with money over a man she really truely loved. so while she has all the possesions in the world (antiques flown in from venice, a chalet, etc) she could ask for. she doesn't have a partner she actually is in love with (The loving that you never found).
Agree, tremendous song this. I find it a little haunting, yet reassuring at the same time.

I agree with all Mr X has written, and would just add the song is probably more relevant today than when it was written. Or maybe that is just because I am older now and have seen more examples of women - the same ones who are often heard to utter words to the effect that money and material things mean nothing to them, they just want to be happy - clawing after men who can afford them position, fortune, fame and power.

Now, I don't actually have any issue with women doing this, so long as they do it well and truly. But to deliberately choose one road, as say Princess Diana did, then weep tears for the opportunities this choice has cost.....once you choose a certain road:
You poor hoochie gucci fiorucci mama
You got really no place to go
Nah you're wrong Mr_X. 'your little man' is her child. A common Australian term. She is a single Mother. She searched for love and never found anyone but pregnant on the way. She has money.

@Mr_X Well done, great analysis....I agree. She took money over love.

A classic. Apparently James wrote this as a 17yr old, now in his 50s he's rubbishing it. He knows it's great, he's being a dick to test us.
