My interpretation of this song was that Finn is talking about a love - that was once strong - has turned cold. A love so cold it's on the brink of suicide (eleven storeys up, about to fall from the second floor). So he's trying to 'talk down the girl' from the edge (love talks down the girl) trying not to let it all get the better of him and have her pass him by.
Unfortunately, his talking down the girl hasn't worked, as apparent from the second stanza. He's gone into a colourless depression and wants to burn all the past, in turn, burning up what he thought was himself. (Perhaps it was a silly mistake that started this all? Maybe she cheated on him, so he's doing what he thinks is right as the love isn't strong enough?)
By the third stanza the couple's actions have all reaped their repercussions. There's no place in his life for her now that she's done whatever it is she's done. There'd be no way to get her back if he tried, now, anyway. He can't help but miss her.
@jackalalpha i dont think his love went cold, i thought he meant so when he said "my love was gone" but after attaching it to the next sentence it meant his love grew stronger(higher up) from the second floor to the eleventh, as a love not warm is a love not done.

my interpretation is that he loves her dearly but shes made up her mind to leave, since he is embarking on his seven seas trips to conquer his fears, shes unwilling to join, (youve made your mind up anyway, another world another world) hence he...
