Though it's not communicated in the lyrics that I can tell, the finale of the piece seems to have a distinct and even ironic change in motif from the sullen, contemplative and sorrowful that stays almost constantly the mood of the entire earliest few of Wolff's released works, into the oddly triumphant, ascending into a melody that is both uplifting and inspiring. Why this sudden complete transformation and its significance to the meaning of the overall piece is a mystery to me. Why does the mood of the music undergo such a drastic change while the lyrics dwell in the chorus, on the note of "tears of longing" and "tears of loneliness"? I'd really like to hear someone else's interpretation for insight into Wolff's decision to progress the song that way.
