I think this song is about the road trip of life. In comparison to broke down transportation or you crappy car that always breaks down. Like the things in life that break us down and we have to keep "turning over the engine" to keep pushing forward. It's shitty but yet a beutiful thing. Even if we had a "map" or knew the right way in life, we'd probably not want to head down that path anyways.
