i do agree with you both but, i think its more that he really loves this girl and he is gonna have to leave and alhtough he knows she would wait forever he wants her to move on if he fails to prove himself. i think its like he is going out to make something of himself for her and if he fails then he isnt worthy of her love that will always be waiting.
