I also thinks its about a couple who have had a long distance relationship for awhile.
I think the guy has been on tour for awhile and the girl has been awaiting his arrival back home and its the last few days before he gets home and its hurting more than ever because they know how close they are to being with each other again.
"the drive home never seemed this long before" is him saying I've driven down this road a million times before,come home after a dozen tours,but this time the trip is so much longer because I finally have something to look forward to.
and he's telling her he doesn't know what will happen to them when he gets home,but he's hoping everything is like it was before he left.
