to elaborate on this, i think that he even means by "figuring it out" when he "drew the lines" that he figured out things weren't worth it/working out when he gave her boundaries and she didn't follow them. Like after the relationship isn't new anymore and both members have to make sacrifices to make the other person happy, like following the guidelines the other has given them.
