This is a bit late, but it has nothing to do with God. It has everything to do with her lack of courage, and the emotions that she can't let out because she is either too afraid, or too self-conscious. The emotions are building inside her. She doesn't have a lover to let her emotions/aggressions out in that way, either ("...beneath these dirty sheets...") Bowling ball in her stomach, wanting to kick a dog that needs love, etc. She needs a release. Easter, however, tries to convince her that that's not who she is, and if she doesn't stay true to herself, she's going to be hollow (like most people are, anyway).
