I think I could try and explain what i believe he's saying with the whole song if i took enough time (that would also involve me taking the time to analyze every line)... but I'm just going to give my interpretation of the chorus:

It's what I tell myself to sleep when I dream myself awake
After he has a sudden/shocking realization of how badly a certain event could effect him... he tells himself that he will be strong enough to force himself to see this event for the good in it, although he truly can't prevent himself from seeing the bad. And when his bad dreams of this event wake him, he reminds himself that he is going to focus on/find the good. This is what he tells himself so that he won't worry about the bad event/let thoughts of it pester him. That is what allows him to fall back asleep.
