Just a little possibly irrelevant fact: Levitz is the name of a chain of furniture stores that might be exclusive to the west coast, or more precisely california. I live in Modesto, Grandaddy's base of operation, and they often cite various locations around town (the tiki bar, gear rd., etc.) I'm not aware of the reference's relevance however. While I think that Frijolito's interpretation is an accurate one, I also think that this song can be be interpreted in more than one way. For me this song is about being perpetually disappointed with the state of affairs, fruitless career decisions(jason's skateboard injury), failed relationships, it's resulting reclusion, the contemplation of suicide. There are many references to the latter theory: "all your lecture's will become converted into static hum" (which is a great line btw), "oh to sleep per chance to dream", etc. The last 4 lines sound less like nostalgia to me, than a deluded reality one finds themselves trapped while considering their self-destruction. Grandaddy hail from one of the 10 ten worst rated cities to live in and their lyrics validate that opinion to a large extent. I think this song along with a few others are what made Grandaddy great, too bad they are the least acknowledged songs in their arsenal.

The last 4 lines are from an Electric Light Orchestra song off of the album Eldorado- which is a great album and definitely an influence of bands like Grandaddy!

:)

Oh, and that album is about a man who prefers to live in fantasy over reality so your "deluded reality" statement is spot-on!

Ah, ELO... Grandaddy can quote you perfectly ::sighs::
