He was terribly ill when he wrote this song, and he recorded the vocals two weeks before he died (so I believe).
Despite that, it remains one of his most beautiful pieces of music. Brings tears to my eyes (and trust me - I'm not one to cry over songs), the sheer perfection of it.

Yeah you are right. He wrote this song 2 weeks before his death. He did the vocals and the music. He never did that but he knew that time was running out and that there wont be enough time for the "normal" procedure.
