For me, this song speaks out to me by making sense of one of the biggest disappointments in my life. I was doing something for the wrong reason that eventually became a part of me before abandoning me completely. "The blood and the treasure" represents the harmful things we seek. For me, this was membership in a fraternity I was pledging simply because it was giving into my desire to have power and a cliche of friends. Bad reasons I realized later. I lost it all when I was unjustly voted out even being Pledge Class President. I wasted "time" 6 weeks doing all of their bull and it led me nowhere "the place where we fall" in my first semester of college at age 17. "Will we wake in the morning and know what it was for?" I couldn't understand why this was happening to me and what I was to gain from this experience. "Up in our bedroom, after the war." My bedroom represented somewhere safe for me, after all of the weeks of agonizing war.
