I don't know about the bit with the ladies though.

In Thailand, vendors push little carts around the streets to sell fresh fruit, on the carts a glass cabinets filled with fruit and crushed ice to keep the fruit cold (google 'fruit vendor thailand' in images to see what I mean). Also Thailand is notoriously full of very pretty ladies who are not always as honest as they seem, and I think that might be what he's referring to in that line.
I think the line is actually meant to be "...in carts" not "...and carts", it would make a lot more sense....
