From the chorus, I always thought it was about disassociation. Which is when someone feels like they're in a dream, when really they're in reality. The verses thuogh, seem to actually be about some sort of dream he is having that is causing him to be bothered for some reason. Maybe a dream about the fear of the unknown? I don't know.
