Sometimes people with learning disabilities appear weird or strange, and many people are afraid or confused by them. To me, its norah's way of talking about a person with a learning disability in a good light, that they mean well and are pure in mind
this song to me is about someone in pain, the purple paint thing is exaggerated so much though. people who work in jobs that require physical labor usual don't have high educations, and their hands do look like someone painted them purple. People don't expect their lives to end up this way... they might feel the pain and thought more would happen, it didn't and so the drink the sorrow away.
