To me, this song is about a man who falls deeply in love with a woman who happens to be a very wild creature.
However, I beleive his love comes too late for her. She has already moved on because her character is defined by the fact that she needs to keep things new and alive. Just as he "comes near," ready to accept this love, she has already disappeared.
This could be nonsense to all of you, but its what I hear.
