I am thinking he has anxiety or withdrawals or both and the Valium is to treat that... or he's addicted to the Valium (which at times is known to cause insomnia, rage, and violence)

To me the true crime was always suicide. Like the meds he's taking aren't doing the trick, and 'the thoughts keep coming' seems to me to imply the thought of suicide.
